It's a reasonably bet that DirecTV will continue to reinforce both performance and functionality thru Cutting Edge updates.
In general, the DirecTV HR23 is highly recommended for anybody looking to add a new DVR. I might also counsel this DVR DirecTV HR23 for anyone that wants to extend their storage in comparison to their current DVR. When you compare the costs of adding an ESATA hard drive to other lower capacity DVRs and the fact that you lose the storage capacity of your internal drive, the DirecTV HR23 is a good cost effective option.
Ah, the pains of progress. Not even two full months after DirecTV's HR22 commenced filtering out to avid users, in flies a first study the upcoming DirecTV HR23. But don't fret -- there aren't too many here. It looks like the HDD of the HD DVR is similar size as that in the HR22, with the major changes being some cosmetic tweaks and internal swaps that might amount to better video standard. The receiver detects if the conversion is necessary, or if the users have an SWM switch mechanically. This same technology has been latterly added to the H23 non-dvr receiver. The hard drive is 500gb, rather than 320gb. Leading to nearly double the storage (because ~50gb is reserved for D* recordings ( ppv/showcases ) on either drive).
